2,900 + hacks and analysts attend the event

Never mind the recession, the GSMA today claims that over 60,000 visitors from different 200 countries went to MWC 2011. That’s 10,000 more than 2010 and a new attendance record. It is also able to boast that over 3,000 CEOs were attendees. More to the point, over 2,900 members of the media – including those in International print, web and broadcast – attended the event either to report or produce analysis. The 2011 Congress also hosted nearly 1,400 exhibiting companies and occupied more than 58,600 square metres of exhibition and business meeting space. Significantly there were more than 45,000 visits to App Planet which hosted Macworld Mobile for Apple iOS developers. App Planet included the Mobile Cloud Forum and the LTE Forum. Overall, 12,000 plus developers attended MWC in 2011, including Countdown2MWC’s own lucky MWC ticket winners thanks to our sponsors – RIM (BlackBerry).

Unfortunately, John Hoffman, CEO with the GSMA, reminded us that, “The GSMA is committed to holding the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona through 2012.” Still, there’s hope. Paris, Milan and Munich are still in the running to become Mobile World Capital. Our preference? That’s easy. The city that hosts the best ever beer festival gets our vote.
