Heavy hitters in MWC ’12 speaker line-up

October 7, 2011

Let’s see … Nokia, Google, and Vodafone

As arch rival event, CTIA, is due to kick off in San Diego, California next week, the GSMA has announced some pretty amazing scoops for new keynote speakers. How about ex-Redmond man, Stephen Elop who is currently CEO with Nokia. Will it still be the world’s largest purveyor of mobile phones by the time he takes the stand in Barcelona in February 2012? Who can tell? What about ex-Novell man, Eric Schmidt who is executive chairman with Google? He knows all about taking on Microsoft and winning (the second time around). And what about Vodafone’s CEO, Vittorio Colao? He’s kept Vodafone up there as a top global mobile network operator.Um, we’re not so sure that eBay’s CEO, John Donahoe and Electronic Arts’ CEO John Riccitiello hold quite so much sway in the world of things mobile but they are very big players in other markets, aren’t they? Given that everyone wants to know how much the fourth screen is going to take out of people’s advertising budgets, having Michael Roth, CEO with the Interpublic Group there will be extremely handy.

Also let’s hear it for previously confirmed speakers – Sunil Mittal, CEO of Bharti, and Ben Verwaayen, CEO of Alcatel Lucent. You can find the entire list of speakers here.

What else have we got? Ah, yes. Nokia, Research in Motion and Samsung are the newest additions to the App Developer Conferences (ADC). Hmm. Is Nokia going to do Symbian and Samsung bada? Or are they both going to do Windows Phone? Find out here http://www.mobileworldcongress.com/adc

Don’t forget the newest programme at MWC – mPowered Brands. It’s dedicated to accelerating marketers’ knowledge and utilisation of mobile as a marketing medium. More details here http://www.mobileworldcongress.com/mpoweredbrands/

2012’s show also pays host to the LTE Forum, sponsored by NEC and Mobile Cloud Forum, sponsored by Cisco and NEC. More here http://www.mobileworldcongress.com/forum-series

And if you’re one of those people/companies that loves having trophies on the mantlepiece dont forget to enter the GSMA’s Global Mobile Awards here http://www.mobileworldcongress.com/awards
